Description
If you’ve hesitated to plant a Dogwood tree for fear of disease and/or borer problems, fear not. The dependable Cornus kousa, often called Chinese Dogwood, Japanese Dogwood or Kousa Dogwood, has demonstrated excellent resistance to both the dogwood borer and anthracnose disease. In some areas of the U.S., anthracnose has almost wiped out many of the native dogwoods, Cornus florida. Not only does Cornus kousa result in a tree with stronger vigor and resistance to insect and disease, it will look and grow better in full sun than other dogwood species.
Chinese dogwoods are multi-season color factories. In spring, this white variety produces an abundance of gorgeous, pointed, 4-petal white flowers that will light up your garden. The flowers are followed by numerous clusters of berry-like fruits that mature to a pinkish red color in summer persisting through fall. Handsome foliage remains rich green, unblemished, and healthy throughout the entire warm season until leaves turn intense shades of scarlet to burgundy red in fall, hanging on the tree for a much longer color show than native dogwood species. For an even more spectacular springtime show, include the Pink Chinese Dogwood in your garden. The pink and white flower combination is a wonderful sight to see!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 20 to 30 feet tall and equally as wide over time, the Chinese White Dogwood is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or in a staggered row in sunny or shady landscape or woodland borders. Also nice to frame the corners of tall homes and to provide beauty and some shade around patios, porches and other outdoor living spaces. A fine addition to woodland gardens, white theme gardens, Asian theme gardens, wildlife gardens, and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 35′ or more for space between trees
Growing Preferences
Dogwood trees are adaptable to many soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Though Dogwood trees will tolerate full sun, we think they look and perform best with some shade or filtered sun during the hottest part of summer afternoons.Constantly soggy or wet soils are problematic. Maintenance is minimal to none. Except to remove a stray or broken branch, no pruning is necessary.

I have ordered from Wilson Bros many times and have never been disappointed. This tree was a good size and came very well packed. There was no damage to any of the branches. It’s still winter and the tree is in its dormant stage so I can’t comment any further but I’m confident it will be fine. I have never had a problem with any of the products I have ordered.——————————-Awesome! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
Over last year or so I have bought several trees from here. Always came well packaged and very healthy. This tree was no different. It is doing quite well despite the hotter and dryer than normal spring and summer.—————————————We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! This was my first time doing business with your company. I received my tree very well packaged. The quality of the tree it’s self is excellent. I can’t wait to see it bloom and grow. It was a great sized tree. I feel I got a very healthy tree at a fair price. I will do more business with your company in the future.———————————Thanks for the great review! Upon arrival, the tree was the appropriate size and had small green leaves budding out! The tree was in perfect condition and and had been securely packaged and shipped, with no broken branches. The tree was moist and the soil intact. What a great company to order from. I would recommended this company to order all my plants and trees from! This is the second time I’ve ordered from Wilson Brothers. And Free Shipping!
