Also called Belgium Purple, as it was developed in Belgium in 1850, Blue de Belgique is a French culinary favorite. This medium size roundish purple plum with sweet, firm golden flesh is nearly freestone. It is heavily productive and ripens in mid season. It needs a pollinizer and blooms between Bavay Gage, Coe’s Golden Drop and Victoria plums. A favorite cultivar of the Bullock brothers on Orcas Island in western Washington.
